GoalsSchool Visits: CPSOA team will acquire cross-cultural awareness by visiting local schools to participate in Home Visits: CPSOA team will foster a sense of advocacy by travelling with Social Workers to visit bed-ridden and home-bound patients and delivering medical supplies, blankets, mosquito nets, art supplies, and toys to families too sick to leave their homes. Donate Toys and Supplies: CPSOA will work to become members of the global citizenry by making quilts and collecting mosquito nets, art supplies, and toys throughout the school year. The overseas team will deliver these much needed supplies to hospitals, clinics, schools, the orphanage, and individual homes in and around Arusha. Education: Prior to their departure, the entire student body of CPSOA, including the overseas team, will learn about the history and culture of Africa and Tanzania and the science of AIDS and its global effects. All CPSOA students will also learn to speak and understand Swahili and participate in African Art and Dance classes. The school will also study Africa’s vast and varied plant and animal life, and will learn ways to help maintain and conserve Africa’s rich environment. While in Arusha, the overseas team will help raise cross-cultural awareness for students back home by blogging each evening about the events of the day and how CPSOA students can further connect to the cause. This experience will not only give every student a deeper understanding of their global community and its many cultures and lifestyles, but it will also help them to become future ambassadors of advocacy, hope, and change. Documentation: A filmmaker (Gyongyver Sovago) will travel with CPSOA to present their humanitarian and artistic work in a feature film length documentary which will be used to draw further large scale awareness to the African AIDS plight. CPSOA will also be accompanied by a Doctor of Education who will conduct an ethnological study to show the effects of arts education on consciousness raising and cross cultural awareness regarding the interactions of youth with health and poverty issues |
