Case Study: Interbath/Ondine Shower Head Packaging

SITUATION

Interbath/Ondine Showers had typically used 2-piece and 3-piece clams to be hung on peg board shelving for their retail store packaging. They felt that clear clam packaging was the best way to showcase their products to consumers. The clam packaging didn't tend to stand up by itself very well, but most retailers use peg board shelving for shower heads.

CHALLENGE

The Lowe's chain of home improvement stores was one of Interbath/Ondines largest retailers and they had recently decided to go away from peg boards to standard shelving and that all packages sold in their stores would be required to be able to stand alone on these shelves without any physical support..

SOLUTION

The solution came about in the form of a clam/box hybrid package. Using an altered version of the clam Ondine was already using, we were able to design a box that encapsulated about 70% of the clam but was still able to showcase the product from the front and side. This also created an excellent opportunity to visually update the packaging artwork and fonts to create a stronger, more contemporary branding for both the Interbath and Ondine product lines.

RESULT

While the Interbath company didn't live long enough to see the placement of these packages on store shelves, the concept remains a strong example of being able to combine the needs of a client with the needs of their vendors.
